In the gorgeous hill country, there are bound to be some breathtaking views - especially when you find yourself hiking around the lake. So, grab your boots, a backpack, sunscreen, map - and don’t forget your water - because we’ve got some awesome trails for you! While they all do require a drive from Lake LBJ, they’re definitely in the area and worth seeing. So, let’s jump right in.

Canyon of the Eagles
Just an hour north of Lake LBJ is Canyon of the Eagles - a wonderful 14-mile hiking trail with gorgeous views, wildlife, and of course; nature. Whether you’re an explorer who’s just starting out or exactly the opposite - an explorer with quite a bit of experience - you can hike all levels of difficulty to at Canyon of the Eagles.

Colorado Bend State Park
If you’re looking for a longer hiking trail, you won’t want to miss the 34 miles of pure bliss that Colorado Bend State Park has. With the Colorado River running through the middle, you can enjoy kayaking too! Just a little over an hour drive north-west from Lake LBJ and you’ll be on your way to hiking, biking, and fishing.

Quiet Hill Ranch
Now, Quiet Hill Ranch has an incredible view of the amazing birds that you can find all around the Hill Country. In fact, their observatory is one of the best places to see these birds in their natural habitat. On top of birding, however, there are many trails around Quiet Hill Ranch where you can enjoy fishing, biking, hiking, and of course - the beautiful nature Texas has to offer. Just a quick hour-and-a-half drive from Lake LBJ, heading north!

What Should You Bring?

If you haven’t been hiking in the Hill Country before, there are a few essentials you’ll need to bring with you. First and foremost; sunscreen and a hat. The sun shines bright and you don’t want to get burned! Comfortable shoes, a backpack, water, binoculars, and a camera are all must-haves, too.
