FLAT CREEK ESTATE LAUNCHES DISC GOLF COURSE
Texas's First Winery Disc Golf Course : One of Three Winery Courses Nationwide

MARBLE FALLS, TX – JANUARY 2017 – FLAT CREEK ESTATE WINERY & VINEYARD, a premier Texas Hill Country destination northwest of Austin, is pleased to announce the scheduled Grand Opening of their new Disc Golf Course, The Flights Course at Flat Creek Estate. In line with their reputation of offering top quality wines and agritourism experiences, Flat Creek hired renowned Disc Golf Designer John Houck to create the course. The 18-hole course features multiple elevations, creek crossings, and beautiful vineyard views. The course includes both recreational and professional tees making it a fun experience for beginner and top level disc players. The course is the first designed around a vineyard in Texas and one of only three winery courses in the United States.

Flat Creek's first tasting room, Trooper's Den, has recently been converted into a Pro Shop selling discs, bags, and other accessories. The selection of Pro Shop items was a new challenge for Owners Rick & Madelyn Naber and Director of Business Operations Amanda Koraska. With little knowledge or experience in the disc golf world, the team reached out to area players for advice on items to stock. "The early support of the disc golf community has been amazing," reports Amanda Koraska.

The team created a separate Facebook page to record the progress of The Flights Course and disseminate information about the upcoming grand opening. Since late October, the page has amassed over 400 followers and a number of 5-star reviews. "We've got a good feeling about 2017. We've reached a whole new market through our disc golf course. Many of our visitors live in the neighboring Lago Vista, Cedar Park & Round Rock area. Some didn't know there was a winery in their backyard. We look forward to hosting lessons, scrambles and tournaments in 2017," says Koraska.

Upon the January 28th Grand Opening, The Flights Course will become one of a few "pay-to-play" disc courses. As the sport continues to grow and a possible addition to the 2020 Olympics is discussed, more players are seeking better quality courses. The hope among players and organizers is that the "pay-to-play" courses will elevate the sport and its legitimacy. "We were a little concerned at first that we might get some push back regarding $20 greens fees but players have been very receptive to the experience during the course preview. Consensus is that disc golfers are willing to pay a fee in return for a quality, well-maintained course," says Koraska.

The Flights Course is another amenity in the expanding Flat Creek business. In addition to the course, the 80-acre estate also includes a 20-acre vineyard with walking paths, a tasting room overlooking a 10,000 case wine production facility, and a fine-dining restaurant with a rustic wood-fired oven. The Flat Creek business includes Flat Creek Enoteca, an urban wine bar that opened in 2014 in the Hill Country town of Marble Falls. The ever-expanding business focuses on creating exceptional guest experiences and the new disc golf course is right on target.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Jan. 15)

FAIR. Water stained; 58 degrees; 0.27 feet below pool. Crappie are good in open water in 20-25 feet with orange and chartreuse jigs. White bass are good in 30-35 feet of water with white jigging spoons. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Fishing patterns are similar, just be sure to slow down your approach. Bass are good on rock piles and brush piles on sunny days. Docks always come into play on this lake so if you find the right ones you can catch a mess of bass. Look for deeper docks but if you do not find any bass try the outside edges. There are some nice grass patches around the lake as well and lots of bass can be found around some of those. Baits working are Texas-rigged plastics like worms and craws and wacky rigged stick worms. A shallow to mid crankbait and spinnerbaits are working as well. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs. Largemouth bass can be caught in 7-15 feet of water on the outer edge of grass with shad patterned Alabama rigs, or crawfish colored rattle trap or chatterbait, or dragging senkos or 6 inch trick worms on the outer edge of grass. Some fish are on humps long drawn out points Texas rigs or Carolina rigs, or in boat docks wacky rigged senkos. Report by Charles Whited, Barefoot Fishing Tours.
