Catch Bass and Win Cash

Unless "Come hail or highwater," the Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host their annual Lake LBJ Bass Tournament and Perch Jerk to benefit the Sunrise Beach VFD October 19 at McNair Park.
The VFD worked tirelessly and incurred higher operating expenses during the busy wildfire season last summer. This was followed by the Auxiliary's bass tournament fundraiser being canceled just three days before scheduled. Heavy rainfall caused a flood that covered large areas of the lake with dangerous debris, and the 2900 bridge collapsed. The flood prompted several rescues by local and state authorities. Many of the tournament sponsors and contenders donated funds inspite of it's cancellation which is great news for angler's who are fishing this year!
Larger cash payouts will be awarded to the top 3 tournament winners and an additional cash prize will be awarded to the lucky entrant who catches the biggest bass.
The Auxiliary has teamed with Texas Association of Bass Clubs (TABC) to provide the official weigh-in on tournament day. There will also be a free Perch Jerk for kids between 10a-1p with cool prizes.
Join the fun and plan to fish for a good cause at the Lake LBJ Bass Tournament benefiting the Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department sponsored by Trammell and Associates Realtors on October 19 from 6a to 3p. Online registration and tournament rules are available at

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 26)

GOOD. Water stained; 67 degrees; 0.31 feet below pool. Crappie are in 10-15 feet of water on brush with chartreuse jigs. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Many bass are on or around beds with this first wave of spawn. Throwing soft plastics and jigs are catching some. A frog or shallow crankbaits will catch a bunch around rocks, bulkheads and docks. Skipping a fluke or Texas-rigged plastics to the backs of docks are getting some nice fish. Any watermelon or green pumpkin colors are working. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs. Bass are on beds fishing wacky senkos under and near docks, or in shallow grass with your favorite plastics. Concentrate on retaining walls with topwaters for numbers. Shad spawn will begin mid April, so keep a buzzbait and swim jig near and target chunk rock. White bass can be found midlake on long drawn out points and humps. Report by Charles Whited, Barefoot Fishing Tours.
