3 Tips for Jet Skiing This Summer

Are you jet skiing on Lake LBJ this summer? Well, before you head out, consider the following three tips for maximizing the fun this season! Don’t worry: they’re easy to follow. We just want to make sure you have the most fun possible while you’re visiting Lake LBJ!

Find a Cove

When you arrive at the lake, it’s important to have a good idea of where the coves are. Jet Skiing is more pleasant on smoother water (unless you’re in it for the thrill, then go for it!), so find a cove in Lake LBJ and let loose. You can even bring along a tube and passenger. Pull the tub all along the coast of the lake and have a blast!

Wear Plenty of Sunscreen

On a jet ski, with the wind blowing against your face and body at nearly all times, it can be difficult to remember that the sun is also beating down on you. You can catch a dangerous sunburn even on a cloudy day, so bring along tons of sunscreen! There isn’t much you can do for windburn, so at least make sure you’re doing what you can to protect your skin from the sun.

Bring the Advil!

It’s the start of summer, so we’re assuming you haven’t developed your “sea legs,” yet! Take it easy on your first trip out, and don’t forget to bring along the ibuprofen. Jet Skiing can easily make one sore the next day, and ibuprofen helps to reduce inflammation. You’ll thank yourself for packing it later, trust us!

So whether you’re boating, fishing, tubing, swimming, or jet skiing this summer, we hope you have a great time out on Lake LBJ! Don’t forget the above three tips; they’ll only ensure that you have an even better time while you’re out in the sun!

Lake LBJ

Fishing Report from TPWD (Feb. 19)

GOOD. Water stained; 59 degrees; 0.31 feet below pool. Lower end of the lake 52-55 degrees and The Colorado River is 48-52 degrees. In the river target bass with a suspended jerkbait, dropshot and Alabama rig between dock, and the big granite boulders. The boulders warm up the fastest so fish will stage there to spawn. On the lower end of the lake target the mouth of canals where the water is warmer using wacky rigged senkos, jerkbaits or Alabama rigs. If you can find any grass left on the lake use an Alabama rig, jerkbait or dropshot with a 3-4 inch favorite plastic. Report by Charles Whited, Barefoot Fishing Tours. Crappie are fair in 25-30 feet on brush and boulders with minnows. Report by Jess Rotherham, Texas Crappie Fishing Service. Bass are good near laydowns and brush piles with jigs, Texas rigged soft plastics, lipless crankbaits and square and some days a spinner baits. Bigger fish are 14-20 feet and as shallow as 5 feet. Report by Bryan Cotter, Texas Hawgs.
